Sean O’Brien, a standout collegiate player at Southern Illinois, is in his first season as a graduate manager with the Bulldogs.
For the past three seasons, O’Brien has played professionally – in Uusikaupunki, Finland from 2017-18 and in Svitavy, Czech Republic from 2018-20.
O’Brien finished his career ranked among the Salukis’ career leaders in scoring (No. 25 with 1,244 points), rebounding (No. 8 with 805 boards), assists (No. 20 with 244) and games started (No. 4 with 122). All told, he posted 61 double-figure scoring outputs in 131 games played, with 18 double-double performances.
O’Brien was named second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference and second-team All-District by the NABC as a senior in 2017 after averaging 11.8 ppg and a team-high 8.5 rpg – second-most in the MVC – while compiling nine double-doubles.
A native of Mundelein, Ill., O’Brien was an honorable mention all-state honoree as a senior at Mundelein High after averaging a double-double of 21.0 points and 11.1 rebounds, as well as 6.1 assists.
O’Brien earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Administration from SIU in 2017 and is currently pursuing a master’s in Consumer Economics at UGA.
