Todd Hartley, a University of Georgia graduate who had also been a full-time staff member with the Bulldog football program in the past, was named tight ends coach on January 14, 2019, and added the Assistant Head Coach responsibilities in 2023.

Since coming to UGA, Hartley has helped to create quite a pipeline for tight ends. Brock Bowers headlines the list as the first back-to-back Mackey Award winner (2022-23) in history and just the third three-time First Team All-American in Georgia football history.  The All-Pro tight end recently completed his second season with the Las Vegas Raiders and finished as a finalist for the 2024 League’s Offensive Rookie of the Year after setting NFL records for most receptions in a season by a rookie (112) and most receiving yards in a season by a rookie tight end (1,194).

The NFL has benefited from Hartley’s players who were drafted in six straight years (2019-24): Isaac Nauta (7th Rd., 224th pick) in 2019, Charlie Woerner (6th Rd., 190th pick) in 2020, Tré McKitty (3rd Rd., 97th pick) in 2021, John FitzPatrick (6th Rd., 213th pick) in 2022, Darnell Washington (3rd Rd., 93rd pick) in 2023 and Bowers (1^st Rd., 13th pick) in 2024.  In addition, Ben Yurosek was signed as a free agent in 2025 and played in 12 games for the Minnesota Vikings, starting one of those contests.

Hartley has been part of the most productive stretches in the Bulldogs’ history. Georgia has compiled a 65-7 record over the last five seasons, including back-to-back College Football Playoff National Championships (2021, 2022), seven consecutive New Year’s Six bowl games, which featured four CFP appearances, and the 2022, 2024 and 2025 SEC Championships since Hartley’s return to the program.

During the 12-2 2025 season, Hartley’s tight ends were pivotal to help Georgia win its second consecutive SEC title, advance to another CPF quarterfinal and top five top 25 teams, including three in the top 10.  Led by Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie, his tight ends combined for 545 and six touchdowns for an offense that put up 32 points per game and gave Gunner Stockton time to post the second best Completion Percentage in school history (69 percent, second in the SEC and 10^th nationally).

Hartley guided a mixture of experienced veterans and promising newcomers at his position to more than 60 catches for nearly 800 yards and seven touchdowns in 2024. The Bulldogs ranked 12^th nationally in Passing Offense (281.0 yards per game, third in the SEC) to help knock off No. 1 Texas in Austin, the then No. 2 Longhorns in the SEC Championship Game and two other top 15 opponents.  Thanks in part to his tight ends’ contributions, Georgia advanced to its fourth CFP appearance since 2017.

In 2023, Bowers led the Bulldogs in receiving for the third straight year as the offense finished ranked fifth nationally in both Scoring Offense (40.1 ppg) and Total Offense (496.5 ypg) and led the country in 3^rd Down Conversions (55.2 percent) in 2023. Georgia went 13-1 following its 63-3 rout of No. 5 Florida State in the Capital One Orange Bowl, marking the program’s third straight year with at last 13 victories.

Hartley was part of a coaching staff that led the 15-0 Bulldogs to the 2022 CFP National Championship with a 65-7 victory over No. 3 TCU in the title game following a 42-41 win over No. 4 Ohio State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl CFP Semifinal. The Georgia offense ranked among the top five nationally in both Scoring Offense (41.1 ppg) and Total Offense (501.1 ypg) in 2022. The ‘Dogs also finished first nationally in Red Zone Offense (97.6 percent), First Downs (375) and Fourth Down Percentage (86.7 percent).

Thanks in part to Hartley and his unit, the Bulldogs captured their first national championship since 1980 with a 14-1 campaign in 2021, highlighted with a 33-18 win over No. 1 Alabama in the CFP National Championship. That season, Georgia ranked 10th nationally in Scoring Offense (38.4 ppg) as Bowers topped his teammates with 56 catches for 882 yards (15.8 avg.) and 13 touchdowns in his true freshman season.

A native of Gray, Ga., Hartley served as the University of Miami’s Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach from 2016-18, under head coach Mark Richt.

Hartley arrived in Miami after serving as Georgia’s Director of Player Personnel in 2015. Before his return to Georgia, he spent four years at Marshall serving in a variety of roles, including tight ends and safeties coach and recruiting coordinator from 2011-14.

Hartley originally joined the Georgia program as a student assistant at the end of the 2005 season. He worked with the offense and special teams until the spring of 2008 while he was an undergraduate.

Georgia tallied three bowl victories during Hartley’s years working with the Bulldogs as a student, including a 41-10 win over No. 10 Hawai’i in the 2008 Sugar Bowl. He was instrumental in preparation of the Georgia defense for the 2009 Independence Bowl, when only one full-time defensive assistant was on staff. The Bulldogs routed Texas A&M 44-20 that night in Shreveport, La.

Hartley graduated from Georgia with a degree in health and physical education in May 2008. He and his wife Jessica have four children: Tucker, Teagan, Tenley and Tatum.
