Now in his 10th year with the UGA Athletic Association, Ryan Gearheart serves as the Senior Associate Director of Athletic Performance.
During his time at UGA, he has worked with multiple sports including baseball, softball, diving, and cheerleading. Additionally, he has oversight of the Graduate Assistant and Professional Internship positions as well as the Internship Coordinator for the Olympic Sports Athletic Performance Department.Â
During his time with the Bulldogs, he has been a part of multiple successful programs including:Â
- National Champions – Swimming and Diving – 2014
- Women’s College Softball World Series Appearances – 2016 & 2018
- Women’s Softball SEC Tournament Champions – 2014
- Baseball Top 8 National Seeds – 2018 & 2019Â
- Baseball Post Season Appearances- 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022
Gearheart has also had the privilege to coach and develop over 30 MLB and NFP draft picks including multiple first round selections. Currently, he trains selected MLB athletes in Athens during their off-season.Â

As the Director of Athletic Performance for Baseball, he created a Sport Performance Team (Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Training, Nutrition, and Sport Psychology) and works with them to coordinate a holistic approach to training including:

Gearheart has helped give back to the community by helping coordinate and lead fundraising campaigns for UGA Baseball and Children’s Health Care of Atlanta (CHOA) that benefitted Pediatric Brain Cancer Research.Â

Currently, he is participating in the UGA Athletic Association Leadership Academy and serves on the Athletic Association Staff Council. Also, he has served on the Student Athlete Health and Wellness Committee.Â
Before coming to Georgia, Gearheart spent time working at Ohio State, Eastern Michigan, and Kent State. He has worked with baseball programs since 2010 while serving in the role as a Graduate Assistant at Eastern Michigan. After his time at Eastern, Gearheart was hired by Coach Scott Stricklin at Kent State. In his first year, KSU earned its first appearance in the College World Series in school history. While at KSU, Gearheart also served as a nutritional specialist for multiple athletic teams. His work experience also includes a stint at D1 Sports Training in Nashville, Tenn., where he was a facility coordinator/head speed and strength coach.
A native of Columbia, Tenn., he earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Middle Tennessee State in 2009 and a master’s degree in Sport Management from Eastern Michigan in 2013. Gearheart is married to the former Paige Herring of Birmingham, Ala., who also works for UGA as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the swimming and diving program. They have two daughters, Peyton (5) and Taylor, (1).
