2008 Women's Tennis Season Review Despite losing its Nos. 1 and 5 singles players off the 2007 SEC championship squad, Georgia hardly missed a beat in 2008, racking up 22 wins and another SEC Tournament title. The Bulldogs earned the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and reached the Round of 16 for the ninth time in 10 years. With a 500-124 record in 23 years at the helm of the Bulldogs, Wallace is now tied with former baseball coach Steve Webber for fourth place on the all-time Georgia wins list. Individually, freshman Cameron Ellis, who played at No. 5, led the Bulldogs with 37 wins including 21 dual match wins. Sophomore Naoko Ueshima was right behind with 36 wins. Ueshima etched her name in the Georgia record books in 2008 With 33 doubles wins, the Hyogo, Japan, native tied former Bulldog Shadisha Robinson for the most doubles victories in one season with 33. Ueshima finished with 69 combined singles and doubles wins this season (36 singles, 33 doubles), tying the Georgia record set by Agate Cioroch in 2002. ![]() |
