The Bulldogs                        defeated Texas Christian University, 40-26, and set several bowl records.                        Frank Sinkwich is named All-America for his outstanding season at the                        halfback position. He had 52 completions for 713 yards and 11                        touchdowns.                         1942 |                         Schedule |                         Letterwinners                          Georgia wins its first SEC Championship. The team finished the regular                        season with an 11-1-0 record, losing only to Auburn. Frank Sinkwich has yet                        another incredible season and wins the coveted Heisman Trophy. Georgia                        defeats UCLA in the Rose Bowl and a young Charley Trippi wins the Helms                        Award as the outstanding player of the game.                         1943 |                         Schedule |                         Letterwinners                          Beloved Mike Castronis, who as a player began a forty-year association                        with the Bulldogs, was named captain of the 6-4 Georgia team.                         1944 |                         Schedule |                         Letterwinners                          Most of Georgia's regular players are off fighting in World War II. The                        remaining Bulldog freshmen manage to complete the season with a 7-3-0                        record in spite of their inexperience.                         1945 |                         Schedule |                         Letterwinners                          Season ending shutouts over Florida (34-0), Auburn (35-0), and Georgia                        Tech (33-0) and a victory over Tulsa in the Oil Bowl were a measure of what                        was to come in '46.                         1946 |                         Schedule |                         Letterwinners                          A perfect 11-0 season including a 20-10 victory over North Carolina in the                        Sugar Bowl put Georgia in the national spotlight with its second SEC title.                        Charley Trippi was runnerup for the Heisman Trophy and won the Maxwell                        Award as the nation's top player.                         1947 |                         Schedule |                         Letterwinners                          Georgia ended the season with a 20-20 Gator Bowl tie against Maryland and                        a 7-4-1 final record. It was the third of four consecutive bowl games for                        Wally Butts' Bulldogs.                         1948 |                         Schedule |                         Letterwinners                          Georgia was back on top of the SEC with a 9-2 record and berth in the                        Orange Bowl at Miami. QB John Rauch led the Bulldogs with his passing.                         1949 |                         Schedule |                         Letterwinners                          Georgia's first losing season since 1939 but the Bulldogs did have some                        outstanding individuals including future NFL players Marion Campbell and                        Bobby Walston.                                                |
