Three Former Bulldogs Elected To State Of Georgia Sports Hall Of Fame

Macon, Ga. --- Two former Georgia football greats and one former UGA tennis star have been elected to the State of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, according to announcement Thursday from the Hall of Fame.
Record setting wide receiver Terrence Edwards, tennis star and national champion Allen Miller and Pro Football Hall of Famer Richard Seymour will be formally inducted into the Georgia Hall of Fame the weekend of February 19-20 in Macon.
Edwards came to Georgia in the shadow of his older brother, Robert, an NFL first round draft choice. But by the end of his Bulldog career, Terrence had created some shadows of his own. A four-year starter from Tennille, Ga., he played under both head coaches Jim Donnan (1999-2000) and Mark Richt (2001-02).
By his senior year, he had led the team in receiving four straight seasons and still holds the Bulldog record for most receptions in a career (204), most receiving yards in a season (1,004 in 2002), most receiving yards in a career (3,093) and most touchdown receptions in a career (30). Edwards is fourth in Georgia history in pass receptions in a season (59) and second in touchdown receptions in a season (11 in 2002). Edwards was a consensus All-SEC first team selection in 2002 and played in the 2003 Senior Bowl.
Edwards played the 2003 season with the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL before playing nine seasons in the Canadian Football League with Montreal and his final seven seasons with the Winnepeg Blue Bombers.
After joining the Blue Bombers as a free agent in May of 2007, Edwards went on to an illustrious career in a Bomber uniform, hanging his cleats up sitting 4th all-time in receiving yards (7,200 yards) and 10th in yards from scrimmage (7,273) as a Bomber. In all seven seasons, he never failed to gain at least 500 receiving yards and pushed his CFL career totals to 508 catches for 7,637 yards and 47 touchdowns by the end of 2013.
Edwards was inducted into the Winnepeg Football Club Hall of Fame in 2017. He was also Georgia's representative on the 2024 SEC Football Legends class.
Miller was only 12 years old when he first caught the eye of legendary Georgia tennis coach Dan Magill at the annual summer Crackerland Tennis Championships in Athens.
A decade later, Miller culminated his collegiate tennis career in leading Georgia to the 1985 NCAA Team Championship during his senior season with the Bulldogs. That same year, he and doubles partner Ola Malmqvist won the NCAA doubles championship. In the championship final, the Bulldog duo knocked off the future world's No. 1-ranked doubles team of Ken Flach and Robert Seguso.
A native of Tucker, Ga., Miller made as much of an impact on the Georgia tennis program as perhaps any athlete in any sport in the annals of Georgia Athletics. He was the first male Bulldog ever in any sport to be named All-America all four years in Athens.
The '85 NCAA Championship run, when Georgia knocked off traditional West Coast powerhouses Stanford, Southern Cal and UCLA en route to the title, was a fitting end to Miller's stellar career. Georgia finished that campaign with a 31-1 record, raising the Dogs' cumulative mark during Miller's four campaigns at UGA to 97-12.
Miller was inducted into the UGA Circle of Honor in 1998 and the State of Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame in 2004. Since 1989, he has served as head tennis professional at the Athens Country Club.
Among many great defensive linemen to wear the Red and Black, Seymour stands with the best.
The former New England Patriot was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022 after leading the NFL team to three Super Bowl championships.
While a Bulldog, at 6-foot-6, 300 pounds, Seymour was a nightmare for opposing offenses. A native of Gadsden, S.C., Seymour played a total of 41 games for the Bulldogs, starting 25 of those contests. In 1999, Seymour led the Bulldogs with 74 tackles, becoming one of only two defensive linemen in Georgia history to lead the team in tackles for a season. Following his junior season, Seymour was elected as a permanent team captain by his teammates.
Seymour was a two-time All-SEC first-team selection and was named a first team All-American in 2000. He ended his career in Athens with a total of 233 tackles, 26 tackles-for-loss, and 10 sacks.
The New England Patriots selected Seymour with the number six overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft. With the Patriots, Seymour won three Super Bowl rings and was named to seven Pro-Bowl Teams. Over his 12 seasons in the NFL, he spent eight seasons with the Patriots and four with the Oakland Raiders. Seymour's storied career led him to be named to the Patriots' 50th Anniversary Team, All-2000's Team and the NFL 2000's All-Decade Team.
In 2015, he was inducted into the Georgia-Florida game Hall of Fame and was also named to the SEC Legends class. In 2018. he was inducted into the State of South Carolina Hall of Fame, in 2020, named to the New England Patriots Hall of Fame, and in 2022 was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He also established the Richard Seymour Family Endowed Scholarship at UGA and made a gift to the Sanford Stadium west end zone project completed in 2018.
