Bulldogs Earn No. 7 Seed In SEC Tournament

March 07, 2026 | Men's Basketball

ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Bulldogs will be the No. 7 in next week's SEC Men's Basketball Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

Following a first-round bye, Georgia will begin the SEC Tournament at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, facing the winner of Wednesday's first-round matchup between 10th-seeded Texas and 15th-seeded Ole Miss.

The No. 7 seed is the Bulldogs' highest since being the No. 6 seed in the 2016 SEC Tournament when Georgia defeated Mississippi State and South Carolina before falling to Kentucky in the semifinals.

Georgia completed its regular season with a 102-96 win at Mississippi State on Saturday, improving the Bulldogs to 22-9 overall and 10-8 in the SEC. That broke Georgia's record for regular-season wins established in both 1931 and 1997 and also represented the first time the Bulldogs have finished above .500 in league play since 2016.

During Saturday's win Georgia also broke its record for total points in a season. The Bulldogs scored 2,764 points in 37 games en route to the semifinals of the 2024 NIT. Georgia has now scored 2,802 points in 31 games this season. The Bulldogs topped the 100-point plateau for the eighth time this season, bettering the previous school record of five 100-point performances during the 1990-91 season.
