26TRK Q&A - Nbuduisi

Getting To Know Nina Ndubuisi

February 06, 2026 | Track & Field

Newly transferred junior thrower Nina Ndubuisi is from Stuttgart, Germany. She started her collegiate track career at the University of Texas and then transferred to the University of Georgia to continue her collegiate journey.

Here is a look at who Nina Ndubuisi (pronounced New-bwee-see) is…

Q: Where were you born?

Nina: I was born in Germany in Stuttgart. It was pretty fun. I feel like Stuttgart is a pretty big city. There's always something to do.

Q: Can you speak any other languages?

Nina: I speak German, English, French and Spanish, and then I'm Nigerian, so that's where my roots are from, so I speak that language as well.

Q: Do you have any siblings?

Nina: I have four siblings, and they're all younger than me. My brother is actually pretty good at soccer, but he's younger than me (16). Then my little sister, she does everything right now. She's nine, and my other two just go to school. They love coming to my meets and like seeing everything.

Q: How did you get into track?

Nina: I used to do the heptathlon, so I used to do seven events, and I started doing that when I was like 11, and then I started focusing on only shot put and discus and the throws events when I was 16.

Q: Were there any other sports you played other than track?

Nina: I played basketball and was a center.

Q: Why did you pick track over basketball?

Nina: I don't know. I feel like track is so individual, like almost everyone can find an event for themselves, and an event that fits them basically. So, I kind of found my event, and also I think it's so, I don't know, fascinating how people run that fast or people throw an implement so far in like two seconds. It's pretty impressive to me.

Q: Did you throw at any other school before UGA?

Nina: My freshman and sophomore years, I used to be at the University of Texas. So that was pretty cool.

Q: So what made you choose UGA?

Nina: I don't know, just the team culture and like the Georgia way, I guess. It's pretty fun out here.

Q: What was the biggest culture shock when you came to America?

Nina: The food sizes. Everything was so big. I order a medium or a small and it's like a large. And then, one thing I love is refills, getting free refills because in Germany, if you get like a Sprite or anything, you have to pay every single time.

Q: Do you have any goals for this season?

Nina: I just want to stay healthy and exceed my goals. My goals are kind of just like (setting a personal record) or improving, but not just on the track, also mentally, and as a person I want to grow. And then I want to defend my SEC Championship title; that would be fun. And then, I want to be top two at Nationals. That is my goal.

Q: Do you have a pre-meet ritual?

Nina: I kind of do, but I don't. I always have the same kind of routine, but I don't like always doing the same stuff because I feel like as soon as I forget it or don't do it if I'm in a meet, I'm like 'oh, this is gonna be bad.' So I'm not a fan of rituals.

Q: Who was your top musical artist for 2025?

Nina: Definitely Drake. I think Drake was my first or second, and then before that was SZA, but I feel like she's more chill, so I don't listen to that before meets.  But I like Drake, Kendrick, but that's kind of conflicting, but my favorite song by Drake is God's Plan.

Q: So, where do you stand on that beef: Drake or Kendrick?

Nina: So I love Drake, but I definitely think Kendrick won the beef, kind of, but I just listen to the music, I don't know what's going on.

Q: Do you have a favorite movie or TV show?

Nina: Okay, so I love Stranger Things. I've been binge-watching it. Obviously, I started when it came out, like 10 years ago, but then I rewatched it to make sure I know everything for season five. I would say that's like my all-time favorite show, so I'm kind of sad they ended it.

Q: Do you have a favorite candy?

Nina: I really like American candy. Yeah, I like Haribo, the gummy bears. That's my favorite one. Also, I like milk chocolate because Germany or Switzerland are really known for chocolate. And then I like Nerds and Sour Patch Kids.

Q: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Nina: I go by Nina, and everyone calls me Nina, but that's not my first name. It's Chioma, it's Nigerian. But when I got to Germany, everyone just started calling me by my second name, so that's what I went by. My parents will call me by my actual first name, so I get the best of both worlds.

Q: Do you have a celebrity look-alike?

Nina: Probably not. I don't know who, and I feel like if I said something it would be totally off, so I don't know.

Q: What is your Starbucks order?

Nina: I love chai latte. I get it iced even in the winter.

Q: Do you have any final words or messages you would like to share?

Nina: Definitely keep up on my track season. I'm trying to do great things this year. So we'll see how it goes.
