No. 11 Georgia Defeats South Alabama, UNC-Wilmington in Back-to-Back Run Rule Victories

ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs starred on Saturday afternoon of the 17th Annual Bulldog Classic defeating South Alabama, 9-0 (5 inn.), and UNC-Wilmington, 9-1 (5 inn.), at the Jack Turner Stadium to improve to 16-5 on the season.

"I'm just proud of the group. It was a pretty complete day of softball. We pitched well and defended well. We had quality at bats and did a good job with our situational awareness in our at bats. That's something we've been talking about, and I was really pleased to see that put into play. At the end of the day, I was excited to see Presley [Harrison] back out there. She's been working to get herself back out, and I thought she commanded the ball really well. It was great to get through the day and get Randi [Roelling] the day off. She's carried the load for us over the last 10 days or so. Shorty [Jaydyn Goodwin] had a great day, Sarah Gordon, and just up and down the lineup we had a lot of good at bats."

- RHP Presley Harrison made her first appearance since the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational with her start in the circle. Harrison went 4.0 innings with one hit, three strikeouts and one walk. LHP Ada Little entered to pitch in the fifth inning to close out the game with two walks and a strikeout.
- Georgia stacked five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to get into position for the run-rule victory. Senior Jaydyn Goodwin was a home run short of the cycle with a 3-3 performance on the afternoon. Senior Sarah Gordon also recorded two hits in the win with a home run in the first inning, and junior Emily Digby blasted a solo shot in the second inning.
- Sydney Scapin made the start for the Jaguars going 3.0 innings with six hits, seven earned runs and a strikeout. Tori Miller closed the fourth inning with two hits, two earned runs and a strikeout.
- The Bulldogs are now 4-2 all-time against South Alabama.
Fast Facts (UNC-Wilmington):
- Senior RHP Destin Howard made her second start of the season going 4.0 innings with just two hits, one earned run and three strikeouts. Little again entered in the fifth inning to close the run-rule victory with one walk and two strikeouts to no hits allowed.
- Catcher Marisa Miller was the star of the afternoon with a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning to put the Bulldogs up 5-0. It was her first career grand slam and the third by Georgia this season.
- Jaydyn Goodwin and Sarah Gordon both recorded three hits in the win. Goodwin was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with one RBI, and Gordon went 3-4 with a single, double and walk-off, run-rule two-run home run. On the day, Goodwin was 6-6.
- UNC-Wilmington scored its lone run off a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Grace Hennessy.
- Georgia improves to 9-0 all-time against the Seahawks.
