Former Bulldog Golfer Griff Moody Passes Away

Athens native was 1979 SEC Golfer of the Year

ATHENS, Ga. — Former Georgia men's golf All-American and 1979 Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Year, Griff Moody,  passed away this week in Athens. He was 68.

A native of Athens, Moody won the Georgia State High School Golf Championship with Athens Academy in 1975 and 1976. He began his collegiate career at Wake Forest before transferring to Georgia following his freshman season.

During his junior season in 1978, Moody won the Palmetto Invitational at 3-under and the Gator Invitational at 4-under, while earning first-team All-SEC honors. He also finished runner-up at the NCAA Championship, carding a 7-under 281.

In 1979, Moody served as captain of the Georgia men's golf team and was named SEC Golfer of the Year. He also represented the United States in the Walker Cup that year.
