Georgia Defeats Boise State, Advances to Championship Round

FORT WORTH, Texas --- The Georgia men's tennis team defeated Boise State, 5-0, in the first match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend to advance to the championship match in the Fort Worth bracket at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs clinched the doubles point after taking courts one and three. Will Jansen and Gabriele Vulpitta defeated Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson 6-3, before Derrick Chen and Noah Johnston defeated Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist 6-4 on court three.
No. 23 Will Jansen won the first singles point for Georgia against Boise State's Carson Baker 6-1, 6-2 on court two.
Court four finished next with No. 100 Noah Johnston defeating Stewart Aronson 6-2, 6-1.
Arda Azkara and Derrick Chen finished their matches simultaneously, clinching the final points for the Bulldogs on courts one and five. Azkara finished in a second set tiebreak, beating Filip Soderqvist 6-2, 7-6 (4). Chen won in the third set 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Sanitago Giamichelle went unfinished in the third set.
Georgia will play in the championship round against TCU on Saturday, January 24 at 2 p.m., pending the winter storm.
