ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog redshirt freshman defensive back Ellis Robinson IV has been named the 2025 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman Defensive Player of the Year presented by Chris Doering Mortgage.

Robinson, a native of New Haven, Conn., joins Miami's Malachi Toney as the National Offensive Player of the Year and Colorado's Quentin Gibson as the National Special Teams Player of the Year.  The trio will be honored during a ceremony on Feb. 23 at Spurrier's Gridiron Grille in Gainesville, Fla.

Former three-time All-American and current Las Vegas Raider Brock Bowers is the other Bulldog to earn an FWAA freshman honor in 2021 since the award's inception in 2018.

Recently named one of three Georgia players named to this year's FWAA Freshman All-America Team, Robinson made 12 starts in his second season as a Bulldog.  He racked up 20 tackles and tied for the Southeastern Conference lead with four interceptions.  Robinson was part of a UGA defensive unit that helped win the program its second consecutive SEC Championship Game, shutting Alabama out for the first three quarters and holding the Tide to minus-3 yards.
