Four Bulldogs Receive SEC Weekly Honors

ATHENS, Ga. – Four members of the University of Georgia men's and women's swimming and diving teams received Southeastern Conference weekly honors, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
The Georgia men swept all three awards with graduate Luca Urlando earning Swimmer of the Week accolades, along with junior Matthew Bray for Diver of the Week and freshman Sean Green for Freshman of the Week. On the women's team, freshman Kennedi Dobson was named Freshman of the Week.
Urlando was named Men's Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season and eighth time in his outstanding career as he helped No. 7 Georgia take down No. 12 Florida State last Saturday in Athens. The Sacramento, California native earned four victories in the meet, including three individual wins. He swept the butterfly events with NCAA cut times (100y butterfly – 45.27; 200y butterfly – 1:39.59), extending his winning streak in the 200y butterfly to 14 consecutive races dating back to October 2022. He also earned his sixth different NCAA cut of the season in the 200y IM, moving to 15th nationally with a time of 1:42.95, along with leading off a victorious 200y medley relay.
Bray received Men's Diver of the Week honors for the first time in his career, becoming Georgia's first winner of the award since Zach Allen in October 2020. The Fairfax, Virginia native continued his outstanding season with season-best scores on both springboards. On 3-meter, he nearly set a new personal best mark with a final score of 401.35, never scoring lower than a 58.50 on any of his six dives and peaking with a 79.90 on his third dive. On 1-meter, he placed second with a score of 327.70, maxing with a 66.00 score on his third dive. Bray has already qualified for Zones on 1- and 3-meter and has picked up 10 wins in dual competition this season.
Green was named Men's Freshman of the Week for the second time after sweeping the distance events in Saturday's meet. In the 1,000y freestyle, the Rockaway Beach, New York native posted his second-fastest time of the season (8:57.64), besting the field by nearly eight seconds. He followed it up with a winning time of 4:19.57 in the 500y freestyle, taking the race by over five seconds.
Dobson earned Women's Freshman of the Week honors for the fourth time this season following three wins in No. 18 Georgia's victories over Arkansas and Florida State. The Levittown, Pennsylvania native set a new personal-best time of 9:29.05 in the 1,000y freestyle, ranking third nationally and sixth in program history. She followed it up with another personal best of 1:53.66 in the 200y backstroke and a winning 4:39.48 in the 500y freestyle, remaining unbeaten in the event this season. She also posted the fastest anchor leg (48.49) in the 400y freestyle relay.
No. 7/18 Georgia returns to competition against No. 10/5 Tennessee in Swimapalooza 2 on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
