New deal extends through 2031 season
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia head coach Mike White has agreed to a contract extension through the 2030-31 season, J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks announced on Friday.
White was among four Georgia coaches whose extensions were announced on Friday along with Drake Bernstein (women's tennis), Meghan Boenig (equestrian) and Caryl Smith Gilbert (track & field).
"These coaches were part of an outstanding year for Georgia Athletics and continue to build their programs for future success," Brooks said. "They each represent our department in a first-class manner and serve as exceptional role models for our current and future student-athletes. We look forward to many great days ahead."
White recently completed his third season with Georgia, with the Bulldogs continuing their impressive and consistent improvement during his tenure. Since White's arrival, Georgia has ascended an average of 181.2 spots among six of the most utilized college basketball metrics – KenPom (+181), Torvik (+158), NET (+185), KPI (+187), BPI (+168) and SOR (+208).
Georgia earned its first NCAA Tournament bid in a decade in March and reached the 20-win plateau for the second consecutive season. The Bulldogs compiled a 20-13 record while playing one of the nation's most challenging schedules. More than 60 percent of Georgia's games – 20 of 33 – were versus other teams that earned bids to the 2025 edition of "March Madness." The Bulldogs also played a nation-leading eight outings against top-10 teams during the regular season, notching victories over both No. 6 Kentucky and No. 3 Florida.
That followed a 2023-24 campaign that saw Georgia earn its first postseason bid since 2017 and then during a run to the NIT semifinals reach 20 wins for the first time since 2016. During White's first season with the Bulldogs, Georgia upped its win total by 10 victories, the second-largest regular season margin among all Power conference programs.
White's entire basketball career has been a model of consistent winning and postseason play.
In seven seasons at Florida before his arrival in Athens, White compiled a 142-88 record while leading the Gators to six postseason bids including four NCAA appearances. In four campaigns at Louisiana Tech between 2011-15, White's Bulldogs compiled a 101-40 record, won a trio of conference regular-season titles and advanced to three NITs.
As a head coach, 10 of his 14 teams reached the 20-win mark, while four notched 27 or more victories. White's squads advanced to postseason play during 11 of 13 possible seasons. During another, when the 2020 NCAA Tournament was canceled due to COVID-19, the Gators were a consensus pick for a single-digit NCAA seed.
White's teams have made solid usage of the opportunities afforded them. Georgia's trek to the 2024 NIT semifinals included impressive road victories at Wake Forest and Ohio State in a three-day span. Florida was one of only six programs nationally to win a game during each of the four NCAA Tournaments contested between 2017-21, headlined by a trip to the 2017 "Elite Eight." At Louisiana Tech, the Bulldogs won three conference titles – 2013 WAC and 2014 and 2015 Conference USA – and advanced to the NIT quarterfinals in both 2014 and 2015.
