2025 Toyota National Championships

Day 1 - Tuesday, June 3

INDIANAPOLIS – Graduate Luca Urlando continued his dominance in the 200 butterfly with a national championship Tuesday evening at the 2025 Toyota U.S. National Championships at the IU Natatorium.

Urlando placed first in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 1:53.42, besting Carson Foster in second place at 1:53.70. With the victory, the reigning NCAA champion earned his second trip to the World Aquatics Championships, where he finished fifth in the 200 butterfly in 2022. Earlier in prelims, he took first with a time of 1:54.57. Urlando will compete later this week in the 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, and 200m freestyle.

Rising sophomore Drew Hitchcock placed 12^th in the 200m butterfly final with a time of 1:57.83, improving upon his 16^th-place time of 1:58.82 in prelims. Rising senior Roman Valdez finished 31^st with a new personal-best time of 2:01.62.

In the women's 100m freestyle prelims, rising junior Helena Jones finished 38^th with a time of 55.91.

Day 2 - Wednesday, June 4

Urlando followed up his national championship with a 10^th-place finish in the 50-meter butterfly, setting a new personal-best time of 23.74. Earlier in prelims, Urlando finished ninth with a then-PB of 23.85.

Rising senior Sam Powe placed 16^th in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:01.72, following a 14^th-place mark of 1:59.73 in prelims. In the women's 200m freestyle, rising senior Shea Furse tied for 19^th at 2:00.14, while rising sophomore Marie Landreneau placed 23^rd at 2:01.19. In the morning session, Landreneau set a new PB of 1:59.54 and rising junior Helena Jones took 40^th at 2:02.97.

Day 3 – Thursday, June 5
Urlando concluded his outstanding week with a fourth-place finish in the 100m butterfly, posting a time of 51.44 following a fourth-place mark of 51.51 in prelims.

Hitchcock finished 11^th in the 400m individual medley with a personal-best time of 4:17.82, improving from a 4:22.06 in the morning session. In the women's 400m IM, rising junior Elizabeth Tilt also set a new PB in prelims at 4:49.41 before placing 21^st in the finals with a 4:52.22.

In the women's 50m breaststroke, rising sophomore Charlotte Headland took 27^th with a personal-best 32.57, while Powe placed 47^th in the men's 50m backstroke at 26.71

Landreneau posted a pair of personal-best times in the women's 400m freestyle, beginning with a 4:15.96 in prelims followed by a 20^th-place 4:15.46 in the finals. Furse tied for 31^st in prelims with a time of 4:17.91

Headland reached the women's 100m breaststroke 'C' final with a 21^st-place time of 1:10.48 before taking 24^th in finals at 1:10.48. In the men's 100m backstroke prelims, Powe finished 42^nd with a time of 56.46.

On the final day of competition, Jones finished 35^th in the women's 50m freestyle with a time of 26.02, while Hitchcock placed 38^th in the men's 200m IM prelims at 2:03.46.
