No. 10 Bulldogs Take Series-Opener Against Texas A&M, 10-6

ATHENS, Ga. – The 10th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs toppled Texas A&M on Thursday night in front of sellout crowd of 3,633 at Foley Field, 10-6.

FAST FACTS:

Georgia battled back from an early Aggie 3-0 lead with a solo shot from Nolan McCarthy, a home run and RBI double from Robbie Burnett and a two RBI double from Kolby Branch to take a 5-4 lead in the third as part of a seven-run outburst.
An RBI single from Ryan Black plated Kolby Branch, and Daniel Jackson added a three-run blast to centerfield to extend the Bulldog lead to 9-4 in the bottom of the third.
Burnett added another RBI single to round out Georgia's 10 runs in the game. In all, Burnett went 3-for-4 at the plate in the win with 3 RBI and his team-leading 20th home run.
Junior JT Quinn (1-1) pitched 3.2 innings in relief, recording a season-high seven strikeouts while giving up just one run for the win. Texas A&M's Ryan Prager (3-4) suffered the loss. Junior Zach Harris closed out the game for the Bulldogs to get his third save of the season with five strikeouts over 1.2 innings.

On the message to the team coming into the weekend...

"There's two more to go. I just told them right there to come out and play with confidence and stay hungry. You can't get comfortable in this game. If you do or you start thinking you've done something or accomplished something, that's when somebody's going to sneak up and get you. We're going to have a huge point of emphasis tomorrow. It doesn't guarantee anything. It's just like tonight. Charlie [Goldstein] got off to a rough start. I thought J.T. Quinn was lights out and settled us down. We played a relatively clean game, but we can still play cleaner, and we played clean enough off the offense too."

On coming back from being down 3-0 in the first inning...

"Our team's done a lot, right this year. I just kept telling our guys they've got to get us out 27 times, and we're really good. Start believing in yourself. Tip your hat to our offense there in the third. I thought what Slate [Alford] and Tre [Phelps] did right there to get that inning going. Tre faced a tough pitch. That ball was in on the white line. He pulled his hands in and smoked it. Obviously, Dan Jackson's ball might be over the tennis court, so he crushed that thing. But that's what our offense is capable of doing. We don't chase, don't expand the strike zone, and we stay disciplined and lock in and play baseball."

On his at-bats and approach at the plate after his first inning home run...

"I just wanted to go up there at the next at bat and just keep the same energy and focus, instead of just sitting on that one home run. I go right back up, and whatever happens, happens. We have really good coaching and have faith in each other. We just want to do it for the guy behind us."
