Women’s Golf Second After 36 Holes At Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Ga. — Three Bulldogs carded top-10 individual placements through 36 holes of play as the Georgia women's golf team finished the first day of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in second place on Tuesday. 
 
Fast Facts
·       Georgia posted a team score of 8-over 594 to place second on the leaderboard through 36 holes. The Bulldogs posted a 7-over 295 followed by a 1-over 289, with four Bulldogs carding par-or-better rounds on the day. Georgia's second-round score of 289 is tied for the fourth-lowest team round posted by the Bulldogs this season.
·       Senior Kate Song and sophomore Celine Brovold Sanne each posted 36-hole scores of 1-over 145 to tie for fifth after two rounds. Both golfers posted a 75 in the first round followed by a 71 in the second round, with Brovold Sanne sinking seven birdies and Song recording five.
·       Graduate student Chantal El Chaib finished the day in ninth place, carding a 2-over 146 to round out a trio of Bulldogs in the top 10 after two rounds. She led the team in the first round with a 1-under 71 followed by a 75 in the second round.
·       Morgan Smith counted a 76 in the first round while Grace Frei posted an even-par 72 in the second round to contribute to the Bulldogs' efforts on day one. Smith currently sits in a tie for 30th with an 8-over 152 while Frei ranks tied for 48thwith her 12-over 156. Zixin "Candice" Lou, who is competing individually, is tied for 61st (+18).
·       The Bulldogs sit just three strokes behind tournament leaders Georgia Southern, which finished the day with a 5-over 581. The Bulldogs are 11 strokes ahead of Missouri and Alabama, which are tied for third at +19, and lead Southeastern Conference foe Oklahoma (+24) by 16 strokes.

"The team showed a lot of heart today and fought for every shot," head coach Erika Brennan said. "They stayed patient and capitalized on the back nine in each of the two rounds, which kept us in it. Tomorrow, we need to continue to focus on our commitments and not force things. They are so capable to get this done!"
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs will compete in the third and final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Wednesday. Play will resume with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m., with Georgia teeing off in 10-minute intervals between 9:30 a.m. and 10:20 a.m.
