T&F Trio Wins SEC Weekly Honors
April 29, 2025 | Track & Field
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Bulldog trio of Riyon Rankin, Ervin Pearson and Stephanie Ratcliffe have earned Southeastern Conference weekly awards following the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., according to a league announcement Tuesday.
Â
Rankin, a native of Brunswick, Ga., was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week; Pearson, a native of Dacula, Ga., was named the Men's Freshman of the Week; and Stephanie Ratcliffe, a native of Melbourne, Australia, was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Â
Last week's awards featured Bulldog senior Moustafa Alsherif being named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Â
Two weeks ago, Alsherif (Men's Field Athlete of the Week), freshman Manuela Rotundo (Women's Field Athlete of the Week) and first-year hurdler Michelle Smith (Women's Freshman of the Week) were honored by the league.
Â
Georgia had another round of SEC weekly winners after its opening outdoor weekend.  Senior Lianna Davidson (Women's Field Athlete of the Week), Smith (Women's Freshman of the Week) and Pearson, nicknamed "Flash", (Men's Co-Runner of the Week) were awarded honors.
Â
Rankin posted a second attempt personal best clearance at 2.27 meters/7 feet, 5 ¼ inches to win the high jump and shoot into the national lead in his second season.  He ranks third in the school's record books and 14th on the 2025 world list.
Â
Pearson flew to second-place honors (top freshman) in the 400-meter dash with a personal best 45.32.  The first-year sprinter ranks 10th nationally (No. 2 freshman nationally and No. 1 SEC freshman) and stands fifth on Georgia's all-time top 10 list.
Â
Ratcliffe sent her fifth throw in the hammer the longest distance of her Georgia career (69.69m/228-7) to edge unattached/No. 11 all-time collegiate performer Maddie Malone by nine inches for the win.  This rocketed the Harvard graduate and sixth-year performer to No. 3 on the current collegiate list (top SEC thrower) and No. 2 in the school record books.
Â
What's Next For The Bulldogs?: Georgia will complete its regular season at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., on May 3.  The SEC Outdoor Championships will arrive on May 15-17 at Kentucky's facility.Â
