Urlando Wins SEC Championship in 200y Butterfly

ATHENS, Ga. – Redshirt senior Luca Urlando's victory in the 200-yard butterfly final highlighted a busy penultimate day of action for Georgia at the 2025 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Urlando touched first in the race with an SEC Championship and Bauerle Pool Record of 1:37.18, just one-hundredth of a second off the American Record time he posted last month at Tennessee. He now holds the top two event times in American history and has now won five SEC championships in his career.
With one day of competition remaining, both Georgia teams continue to stand in fourth place, with the men tallying 642.5 points and the women claiming 538.5 points.

- Men's 200y Butterfly – Following Urlando, graduate Jake Magahey earned his fourth bronze medal of the week with a personal-best A-cut of 1:39.91, the third-fastest time in program history. Freshman Drew Hitchcock finished eighth with a B-cut of 1:42.17, following a PB of 1:41.09 in prelims that made him the No. 9 performer in program history. Junior Roman Valdez finished 12th with a personal-best B-cut of 1:42.61, followed by senior Peter Sacca in 16th at 1:44.67.
- Women's 100y Backstroke – Senior Eboni McCarty finished sixth with a B-cut of 51.34, while freshman Katie Belle Sikes finished 23rd with a B-cut of 53.10.
- Men's 100y Backstroke – Junior Ruard van Renen finished seventh with a B-cut of 45.13. Fifth-year Wesley Ng finished 18th with a B-cut of 46.24 with freshman Tane Bidois placing 22nd at 46.77. In prelims, Bidois notched a PB of 46.75.
- Women's 100y Breaststroke – Freshman Charlotte Headland finished 34th with a time of 1:01.55, while junior Elizabeth Isakson tied for 40th with a 1:03.15.
- Men's 100y Breaststroke – Redshirt sophomore Kristian Pitshugin placed eighth with a B-cut time of 52.17, the ninth-fastest time in program history. Freshman Elliot Woodburn took 12th with a B-cut of 52.40 and senior Arie Voloschin finished 23rd at 52.77. In prelims, all three swimmers turned in personal-best times placing them in the top-10 performers. Pitshugin moved into second place at 52.16, surpassing head coach Neil Versfeld's time from 2009. Woodburn moved into fifth with a time of 52.26, while Voloschin now ranks eighth at 52.72.
- Women's Platform Diving – Junior Hannah Stumpf finished 18th with a score of 229.80, while freshman Ivy Buckley placed 36th at 154.95.
- Women's 400y Medley Relay – McCarty, Headland, Maluka, and sophomore Helena Jones finished eighth with a time of 3:33.00. McCarty led off with a 100y backstroke leg of 51.64, while Jones closed with a season-best 47.30 split.
- Men's 400y Medley Relay – The team of van Renen, Pitshugin, Urlando, and senior Reese Branzell were disqualified due to an early takeoff on the second exchange. During the race, the quartet posted a potential fourth-place time of 3:02.87 that would have set a new school record.
