
Bulldogs In Third Place After Opening Day Of San Diego State Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Georgia women's golf team finished the first day of the San Diego State Classic in third place behind top-10 efforts from Chantal El Chaib and Kate Song on Monday.

·       The Bulldogs posted an overall score of 579 over 36 holes to finish the opening day of competition 3-over par. El Chaib and Song finished their days in second and 10th, respectively, with 36-hole scores of 136 (-8) and 141 (-3). Heading into the final 18 holes, Georgia is six strokes behind second place UNLV while El Chaib is six strokes off the individual lead.
·       El Chaib shot a 6-under 66 in the tournament's second round to take over second place after 36 holes of play. The graduate student sunk 13 birdies on the day – seven in the first round and six in the second – to finish the day 8-under par after carding a 70 in round 1. Her 66 in the first round matches Morgan Smith's 6-under effort at the Illini Invitational for the lowest-scoring round by a Bulldog this season and sixth-lowest in Georgia history.
·       Senior Kate Song finished the day 3-under par, carding rounds of 70 and 71 to end Monday's action in 10th place. Song matched El Chaib's team-best 2-under 70 in the first round, birdying three times while adding just one bogey to hold a share of 7th place through 18 holes. In the second round, Song added another three birdies and two bogeys to ultimately finish the day in 10th with 18 holes left to play.
·       Smith counted a 73 in the first round, highlighted by birdies on holes 4 and 13, before posting a 75 in the second round. The sophomore finished the day 4-over par and is tied for 22nd place.
·       Sophomore Celine Brovold Sanne posted two rounds of 77 to finish the day +10 and in 45th place. She carded three-straight birdies on holes 16-18 before sinking another on hole 2 as part of her first-round effort.
