No. 1 Bulldogs Set to Host No. 8 North Carolina

ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 1-ranked Georgia women's tennis team (3-0) is set to No. 8 North Carolina (5-1) on Saturday, Feb. 1 with first serve at 2 p.m. ET at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Facility.

  • The Bulldogs trail the all-time series 4-15 against the Tar Heels, with Georgia's last win coming in the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championship match in a 4-3 victory over UNC. 
  • Saturday's meeting will mark the first time the Bulldogs face the Tar Heels as the higher-ranked team since the 2016 ITA National Team Indoor Semifinals (No. 2 vs No. 5).
  • Georgia enters Saturday's matchup with five players listed in the latest ITA player rankings. Last Time Out
Georgia improved to 3-0 on the season with a 5-0 sweep over Princeton to punch its ticket to the 2025 ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Opening with doubles, Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco each earned their first dual victory of the season, teaming up to defeat Yichen Zhao and Tsehay Driscoll, 6-3, for the first win of the day. The duo of Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova followed up to secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs, taking a 6-2 win over Pearlie Zhang and Bella Chhiv on court one. Moving ahead to singles, Reasco dominated on court four as she tallied Georgia's first singles win of the day with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Zhao. Sofia Rojas followed not long after with a victory on court six, cruising past Zhang 6-3, 6-1, to earn her third win in as many matches. No. 1 Vidmanova earned the clinch to secure the sweep for Georgia, taking a 6-2, 6-1 result over Alice Ferlito on court one. Within seconds of Vidmanova's clinch, Mert secured match point on court three, locking in a 6-3, 6-2 win over Eva Elbaz to cap off the team score at 5-0.
 
Scouting the Opponent
North Carolina heads into Athens with a 5-1 overall record with four wins coming via sweep while its only loss coming in an early season unofficial conference matchup against No. 9 Virginia, 4-3. Led by head coach Brian Kalbas in his 22nd season in Chapel Hill and 33rd season overall, the Tar Heels look to continue success in 2025. UNC enter Saturday's meeting with five players listed in the latest ITA rankings. In doubles, Susanna Maltby and Carson Tanguilig headline the list at No. 1 followed by Tatum Evans and Theadora Rabman at No. 20 and Maltby and Lindsay Zink at No. 64. In singles, Rabman leads the way at No. 9 followed by Tanguilig at No. 20 and Evans at No. 23.
