Georgia Cross Country Heads to Huntsville for NCAA South Regional

November 13, 2025 | Cross Country

Huntsville, Ala. — Georgia cross country looks to punch its tickets to the NCAA Championships by way of NCAA South Regional hosted by the North Alabama at the John Hunt Park course early Friday morning.

At the nine NCAA Regional meets that will be taking place across the country on Friday, teams will be competing to secure one of the top two automatic qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships, which will be hosted by Missouri on Nov. 22.

An additional 13 at-large teams and select number of additional individuals not attached to a qualified team are chosen through a national selection process by the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee. The NCAA Selection Show is set for Sat., Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. ET on NCAA.com. The top-25 finishers at each regional earn All-Region honors.

"We have arrived at the point where you have to advance to prolong your season, and I am confident this group has the potential to do that", head coach Adam Tribble said. "We have talked about building on the momentum from the men's showing at the SEC Championship and continuing the development of this women's team by getting crucial experience at a Regional like this. I am encouraged about the future of our distance program thanks to the commitment of this group and can't wait to get to the start line."

Sophomore Izzy Yonas and freshman Anastasia Nilsson are the two Lady Bulldogs to watch after a pair of impressive performances at the 2025 SEC Cross Country Championships. Nilsson took 30th at 20:51.61 and Yonas finished close behind in 40th at 21:04.30.

Other women scheduled to run on Friday for Georgia are freshmen Madeleine Holland, Erin Musty, Lauren Skeens, Maeve Waddell and Elise Wooddell.

Returning All-Region Junior Ryan Olree is fresh off a Second-Team All-SEC performance that helped lead the Bulldogs to a runner up finish at the 2025 SEC Cross Country Championships two weeks ago. Last season, Olree finished in 19th place at 30:34.9 narrowly missing being an individual qualifier.
Another pair of runners to watch are graduate transfers Will Aitken and Matias Reynaga who both collected SEC honors at the conference championship meet. Aitken finished in 13th at 23:40.32 for Second-Team All-SEC honors and Reynaga followed in 16th at 23:43.05 for Third-Team All-SEC honors. This will serve as runner's first NCAA Regional at Georgia.

Other men running for Georgia are junior Conner Rutherford, graduate transfer Oliver Smart and freshman Kristers Kudlis.

The women's 6K race scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET and the men's 10K race will follow at 10:30 a.m. ET.
