ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia women's tennis team was recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for academic achievement Monday including five student-athletes earning ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.
Teams with a 3.2 grade point average (GPA) for the year earn ITA All-Academic Team distinction while student-athletes who post a 3.5 GPA for the year are recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The Bulldogs finished the year with a 3.52 GPA while junior Dasha Vidmanova, sophomore Alexandra Vecic, sophomore Anastasiia Lopata, sophomore Haley Gaudette and freshman Tatum Buffington had at least a 3.5 GPA to be named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Also, all 10 members of the Georgia squad made the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll which was announced earlier this month.
In his first season at the helm, Drake Bernstein led the Bulldogs to the Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament titles and the brink of an NCAA Championship. Georgia reached the finals of the NCAA Championships and finished with a 25-5 record and a No. 3 ITA final ranking. Lopata advanced to the singles final of the NCAA Championships while Vidmanova and freshman Aysegul Mert captured the program's first NCAA doubles title.
