Mustin Runs Second-Fastest Time Of Her Career In T&F Trials Semifinal
June 29, 2024 | Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. --- Dominique Mustin clocked the second-fastest 400-meter hurdle time of her life in the semifinal round on day seven of the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., Saturday.
Â
Mustin, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., was fifth in her heat and 13th overall in the 27-woman field.  She crossed the finish line in 55.94, which only trailed her personal record (55.60) set to finish second at this year's Southeastern Conference Championships and move to No. 2 in the school record books.
Â
ALSO OF NOTE: At the Bell Track & Field Trials/Canadian Championships on Saturday, sophomore Christopher Morales Williams ran a 45.44 to capture gold in the 400m at the Centre Claude-Robillard facility in Montreal.  Morales Williams has clinched his spot for Team Canada at the Paris Olympics.
Â
In addition, former Georgia throwers Denzel Comenentia (Netherlands) and Marie-Therese Obst (Norway) are expected to fill spots for their native nations in the hammer throw and javelin, respectively, at the Games.
Â
On Sunday at the U.S. Trials, sophomore Aaliyah Butler, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., came out of lane five and was the second finisher in the women's 400m final with a 49.71, which topped her school record.  This clinched her spot on Team USA.
Â
Keturah Orji, who competed for Georgia from 2015-18, traveled the second-longest distance of the meet in the triple jump on her sixth try last Saturday to earn a spot on Team USA for the coming Olympics.  Fourth in the triple jump at the 2016 Games, Orji was seventh at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
Â
Six current Bulldogs and nine former Georgia standouts are competing in their home country's Trials between June 21-30.  The meet is being held on the University of Oregon campus where the Bulldog men and women recently finished ninth and 10th, respectively, at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 5-8).  The top three finishers in each event at the Trials will advance to the Olympic Games in Paris (August 1-11), barring the athletes have the standard mark/time necessary in their event.
