Stege Advances to 800m Freestyle Final

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Georgia swimming team continued competition Friday at the 2024 United States Olympic Swimming Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium and the Diving Trials at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Rising senior Rachel Stege advanced to her second finals of Trials with a sixth-place time of 8:32.38 in the women's 800-meter freestyle. Stege will compete for her first Olympics berth in Saturday evening's final. Elsewhere in prelims, fellow rising senior Abby McCulloh placed 10^th with a time of 8:36.23, followed by rising graduate Sloane Reinstein in 30^th at 8:47.66 and recent graduate Jillian Barczyk in 40^th at 8:57.78.
Bulldog alum Chase Kalisz finished fourth in the men's 200m IM with a time of 1:57.17. Kalisz is slated to make his third Olympic roster in the 400m IM, with the official confirmation coming this weekend.
Recent graduate Zoie Hartman placed 16^th in the women's 200m IM semifinals with a time of 2:16.00, following a ninth-place mark of 2:14.10 in prelims. Fellow graduate Callie Dickinson finished 37^th with a time of 2:18.49.
Recent graduate Meghan Wenzel nearly reached the women's platform final at the Diving Trials. Wenzel placed 13^th overall with a score of 230.30 after posting a 17^th-place mark of 224.10 in prelims. Incoming junior transfer Renato Calderaro finished 35^th in the men's 3m prelims at 266.90.

The U.S. Olympic Trials continue Saturday with the final morning session of the meet, featuring the women's 50m freestyle and men's 1,500m freestyle. Prelims stream at 11 a.m. on Peacock, followed by semifinals and finals at 8 p.m. on NBC.
