Magahey Finishes Sixth in 400 Free on Opening Day of Trials

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Georgia swimming team posted a solid first day of competition Saturday at the 2024 United States Olympic Swimming Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Rising graduate Jake Magahey finished sixth in the men's 400-meter freestyle final, posting a time of 3:46.89, the second-fastest long course mark of his career in the event. In prelims, Magahey placed fifth with a time of 3:48.16.
Bulldog alum Nic Fink advanced to Sunday's men's 100m breaststroke final with a third-place time of 59.46 in Saturday evening's semifinals. Fink posted the top prelims time at 59.24. Rising fifth-year Connor Haigh finished 50^th in his Trials debut, turning in a time of 1:02.20.
Rising senior Rachel Stege led a pack of Bulldogs in the women's 400m freestyle prelims, finishing 13^th with a time of 4:11.23. Fellow rising senior Abby McCulloh placed 15^th overall with a new personal-best time of 4:11.28, followed by rising graduate Sloane Reinstein in 25^th place at 4:13.74. Rising junior Shea Furse finished 32^nd with a time of 4:14.56, while recent graduate Jillian Barczyk took 41^st at 4:18.34.
Bulldog alum Dakota Luther finished 15^th in the women's 100m butterfly semifinals with a time of 58.65. Fellow alum Callie Dickinson finished 29^th in prelims with a time of 59.47.

The U.S. Olympic Trials continue Sunday with prelims in the men's 200m freestyle, men's 400m IM, women's 100m breaststroke, men's 100m backstroke, and women's 200m freestyle. Prelims stream at 11 a.m. on Peacock, followed by semifinals and finals at 8 p.m. on NBC.
