Trio Of Baseball Lettermen Honored

ATHENS, GA.-----Larry Thompson, Larry Littleton and Connor Tate were honored at the annual Georgia Baseball Lettermen's Day recently at Foley Field. 
 
Bulldogs from as far back as the 1960s were in attendance to see the Bulldogs sweep then 13th-ranked Vanderbilt. One of the highlights of the day featured three lettermen receiving awards. Georgia recognizes the annual Charley Trippi Distinguished Lettermen Award recipient along with the Tom Cousins Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award winner and the Cheek & Templeton Prestigious Alumni Award recipient. 
 
Thompson, a native of Savannah, lettered from 1962 through 1964 under Big Jim Whatley. He batted .316 and served as captain of the 1964 squad. Since finishing his baseball career, he has owned and operated a successful sporting goods store in his hometown. He served as the driving force behind the Paulson Softball Complex. A member of the Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame, he and his wife Suzanne have been supporters of youth and adult athletic teams. They have been married for 58 years with four children and six grandchildren. Thompson received the Trippi Award.
 
An All-SEC outfielder from Atlanta, Littleton lettered in 1975 and 1976. He was among the team's leading hitters during his career and served as a team captain in 1976. He was Georgia's first-ever first round draft pick, going sixth overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played eight years of professional baseball and reached the Major Leagues with Cleveland. Recently, he retired after 30 years in the healthcare service field. He and his wife Ginger have three children and two grandchildren. Littleton received the Cousins Award.
 
A record-setting outfielder and two-time ABCA All-Southeast Region selection from Bishop, Tate lettered from 2019 through 2023. He was named the Team MVP twice in his Bulldog career and ranks in the top 10 in multiple offensive categories with a .342 batting average, 43 home runs and 169 RBI. He served as one of the team captains last year, and he batted .377 with 16 home runs including tying a school record with three grand slams. He earned a degree in Sport Management and a certificate in Learning, Design and Technology. Tate received the Cheek & Templeton Award as the most outstanding senior on the 2023 squad.
