Sixth Inning Home Run Lifts Tennessee Past Georgia, 3-1

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The third-ranked Georgia softball team fell to No. 6/4 Tennessee in the series finale on Sunday, 3-1. A three-run sixth inning home run proved the game-winner for the Lady Vols.
Georgia falls to 31-8 on the season and 7-5 in SEC play.
Shelby Walters (7-3) pitched five and a third innings in her start, allowing just one hit through five and a third innings. She struck out four in her outing and retired 13 straight batters between the first and sixth innings. Lilli Backes got Georgia out of the sixth inning, getting the final two outs of the frame.
Georgia's three hits came from Dallis Goodnight, Sara Mosley, and Emily Digby.
Georgia struck first in the third. Marisa Miller led off the frame with a walk. Georgia's first hit was a Digby double; pinch runner Hannah Davila held at third on the play. Pinch hitter Jaiden Fields flew out to right, good enough for a sac fly, putting Georgia on the board, 1-0.
Walters shut down the Lady Vol hitters from the second inning through the fifth, not allowing a single base runner. Tennessee used a walk, a hit, and a home run to break through in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 3-1 lead on the Bulldogs.
The Lady Vols held on in the seventh to secure the series win over Georgia.
Georgia returns home to host Georgia State in midweek action on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Jack Turner Stadium.
