ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia senior Jake Magahey and junior Abby McCulloh were two of 13 Bulldog swimmers named to the 2024 All-Southeastern Conference Team, as announced by the conference office in Birmingham Wednesday morning.
For the All-SEC Teams, the First Team consists of the top finisher in each event at the SEC Championships, and the Second Team consists of the second- and third-place finishers in each event. The All-Freshman Teams consist of any redshirt or true freshman who finished either in the top eight or is the highest scoring freshman of each event at the SEC Championships, excluding relay events.
Magahey received his second First Team honor after winning the league title in the 500-yard freestyle at February's SEC Championships in Auburn. The Dacula native also earned a silver medal in the 800y freestyle relay and bronze medal in the 200y butterfly. Later at NCAAs, he picked up First Team All-America honors in the 500y freestyle, 400y IM, and 800y freestyle relay, along with a Second Team citation in the 200y butterfly. During the season, he earned 17 dual meet victories, set two personal-best times, and was twice named SEC Swimmer of the Week.
McCulloh capped off a career year by becoming Georgia's seventh NCAA champion in the 1,650y freestyle, winning in her home pool with a Bauerle Pool-record and personal-best time of 15:37.74, after previously finishing sixth in the 500y freestyle. The Lilburn native also won the SEC title in the mile and earned a bronze medal in the 500y free. During the season, she was consistently ranked as the nation's fastest swimmer in the mile and twice set pool records in the 1,000y freestyle, earning SEC Swimmer of the Week honors in the process.
For the Second Team, graduates Bradley Dunham, fifth-year seniors Ian Grum and Zach Hils, and freshman Tomas Koski were named to the men's team, while fifth-year Zoie Hartman, senior Sloane Reinstein, juniors Eboni McCarty, Briana Roberson, and Rachel Stege, sophomore Shea Furse, and freshman Helena Jones earned placement on the women's team.
