Jonathan Cannon Will Start For Chicago In MLB Debut

ATHENS-----Former University of Georgia All-America pitcher Jonathan Cannon will make his Major League debut in a starting role for the Chicago White Sox Tuesday.
Cannon, who was a third-round pick in the 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft, will face the Kansas City Royals in Chicago. First pitch at Guaranteed Field is set for 7:40 p.m. EDT.
A 6-6, 225-pound native of Alpharetta, Ga., Cannon was promoted from Triple-A Charlotte where he had a 2.79 ERA in two starts after posting an impressive Spring Training with the Major League club. Last year, he spent time in High-A and Double-A plus was on the roster for the 2023 Futures Game held during MLB's All-Star weekend. During his minor league career, Cannon made 30 starts, logged 138 innings with a 4.17 ERA, 121 strikeouts and 47 walks.
A member of Georgia's rotation from 2020-2022, Cannon went 16-6 with a 3.71 ERA in 33 appearances including 25 starts. In 153 innings, he registered 137 strikeouts and only 27 walks. A three-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, he was a first team All-SEC selection in 2022, posting a 9-4 mark and 4.02 ERA in 13 starts. Cannon was named a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Cannon is the 41st former Bulldog to reach the Major League level. Currently, there are four other Georgia greats in the Majors in Kyle Farmer (INF, Minnesota), Emerson Hancock (RHP, Seattle), Jared Walsh (1B, Texas) and Alex Wood (LHP, Oakland).
