April 11, 2024 | Soccer

ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia freshman defender Kiera Staude was one of 24 players named to the U.S. Under-19 Women's Youth National Team training camp roster, as announced by head coach Carrie Kveton Thursday afternoon.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2005, were eligible for the U-19 WYNT team, with Staude being one of 11 players born in 2005 chosen for the camp, which will run April 21-26 in West Palm Beach, Florida. All players in the pool are age-eligible for the upcoming 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup this September in Colombia.

Staude was one of 10 collegiate players selected for the roster, with Georgia being one of seven programs to claim a roster spot. Last season, the Atlanta native made an immediate impact on the Bulldogs, helping the program earn its first SEC Tournament title in program history and reaching the NCAA Third Round for the second time ever. Staude played and started in all 23 matches, tallying 1,834 minutes, the third-most among field players. She played primarily on the backline, with the team only allowing 24 goals and posting eight shutouts.

Staude scored the winning goal in the 85th minute against Liberty in the NCAA Tournament First Round, along with assisting on a goal against San Francisco. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI Second Team, and finished the season ranked No. 33 on TDS's Top 100 Freshmen List.

Prior to this call up, Staude was selected to the 2023 U.S. U-19 Women's National Team Domestic Training Camp and was invited to the 2021 USYNT Regional Identification Center. She has also been selected for the U-17 player pool and U-15 domestic training camp.
