Georgia Adds Pair of Doubleheaders to Schedule
March 05, 2024 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 48 Georgia men's tennis team has added two matches to its schedule, with the Bulldogs now set to host The Citadel on Sunday, March 24 at 5 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex and against Tennessee State on Sunday, April 14 at 5 p.m. at the Ensworth Tennis Center in Nashville, head coach Manuel Diaz announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Both matches will create double headers on those respective dates. Georgia plays No. 47 Arkansas at 1 p.m. on March 24 before taking on The Citadel and No. 45 Vanderbilt before the match against Tennessee State.
Georgia's tilt against The Citadel will be the third all-time meeting between the programs. The last match was played in 1963, where Georgia won by a 6-3 result. One of Georgia's three ties in program history came against The Citadel during the first match the schools played on March 30, 1961, with the teams finishing in a 4.5-4.5 draw.
The Bulldogs and the Tigers will meet for the first time in history following Georgia's final regular-season Southeastern Conference match against the Commodores. Tennessee State returns five players from its 2022-23 team that went 10-15 overall and 6-4 in conference play, finishing the year in the first round of the Horizon League Championship.
Georgia will return to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Friday, March 8 for a doubleheader with matches scheduled against No. 18 Alabama at 2 p.m. ET and South Carolina State at 5 p.m. Georgia is 61-7 and 3-0 against Alabama and South Carolina State respectively.
