CLEMSON, S.C. --- Christopher Morales Williams re-set the Canadian national record in the 400-meter dash to win his featured event during day one of the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C., Friday.

Morales Williams' teammate Hossam Hatib also set a national record of his own in the 400m after surpassing his previous Moroccan No. 1 time to better his spot in the school record books.

Also, a variety of Bulldog distance runners competed on the opening day of action at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn.

Morales Williams, a native of Vaughan, Ontario, topped his previous Canadian national record of 46.05 set three weeks ago at The Track at New Balance Collegiate Showdown with a 45.39.  The sophomore currently stands third in the school record books and on the 2024 NCAA and world lists.  Only Elija Godwin (44.75 – 2023) and the late great Torrin Lawrence (45.03 – 2010) stand ahead of Morales Williams on UGA's top-10 list.

The Lowdown: The highlight of the day came from Morales Williams, who edged former Bulldog great Matthew Boling (personal best 45.47) for the 400m win.  Also in the event, Hatib continued his attack on the school record books with a 46.02 for seventh place.  This put Hatib at No. 6 on UGA's all-time top-10 list.  Hatib's time improved his former Moroccan national record from the Collegiate Showdown of 46.44.

A pair of Lady Bulldogs either moved into the school's all-time top-10 list in the 400m or bettered a current spot.  Haley Tate rocketed from ninth to fifth in the UGA record books with a 53.02 to finish 16th.  While Kimberly Harris was seven spots behind with a 53.48, her sister Sydney Harris took control of the 10th spot on the all-time list with a 53.71 for 27th.

In the 60m semifinal, Kaila Jackson had the fourth-best time with a 7.21 to move on, but did not start the final.  Jackson won the fourth heat in the prelims (third overall) by matching her season best (7.19).

Brody Buffington was the top finisher in the third heat of the 60m prelims and fifth overall after he registered a 6.68. The true freshman had a false start in the following round.

Meanwhile in Nashville, Charlotte Augenstein continued her strong 2024 indoor season by bumping from No. 8 to No. 4 on the school's mile list.  The Albany, Ga., native clocked a 4:43.08 to take fourth at the Music City Challenge.
