Katie Finnegan Named AAI Award Nominee

ATHENS, Ga. --- Senior Katie Finnegan of the University of Georgia gymnastics team was named a nominee for the AAI Award, presented to the nation's most outstanding senior.
Finnegan is one of 50 nominees for the award this year. The AAI award is widely considered the Heisman Trophy of women's gymnastics.
The Kings Park, New York native is a senior leader of the Georgia GymDogs. She brings a strong work ethic and drive to continue the Georgia gymnastics legacy. She has served as a captain and consistently competes two events for the GymDogs.
She has been a staple in the bars and vault lineups. She notched a 9.950 and averaged a 9.856 on bars in 2023. After five meets in 2024, Finnegan has competed a total of 15 times on vault, 29 on bars, and six on beam throughout her GymDog career. She received Georgia's best bars score of the season and was the GymDogs' top finisher six times on bars in 2023.
Finnegan is a driven student as well, holding over a 3.0 GPA as a psychology major and Deaf Studies minor. Per the recommendation of her professors due to her performance in the classroom, Finnegan is serving as a Peer Learning Assistant (PLA) for one of her American Sign Language (AMSL) teachers. She serves as a tutor/learning assistant to the students on behalf of her deaf teacher. She is the first gymnast to earn a minor in Deaf Studies and has has applied to the earn her masters in Social Work.
Additionally, Finnegan is a member of the UGA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was inducted into the Leadership Academy (L.E.A.D.) in 2023. Over the course of the last four years at the University of Georgia Katie has taken advantage of numerous volunteer opportunities, including Gymnastics Special Olympics, Athens Boys and Girls Club, and Operation Teammate.
