December 03, 2024 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. – Junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown and graduate midfielder Nicole Vernis were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Team, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
Vernis was named to the Second Team, while Brown received Fourth Team honors, the first All-Region accolade for each player. Both were named to the Second Team All-SEC in November.
For Georgia (8-7-6, 3-3-4 SEC), the honors mark the fifth-consecutive season with multiple All-Region honorees, with six being named during head coach Keidane McAlpine's tenure.
Vernis, a team captain, posted a terrific final season in Athens as the leader of the Bulldogs' midfield. The North Palm Beach, Florida native started all 21 matches, tallying 1,834 minutes, the most of any Georgia field player. Vernis scored three goals and assisted on four others, including her first career brace to ensure the tie at then-No. 13 Auburn and a service to Dasia Torbert on her winning goal in the SEC Tournament against Texas A&M.
Brown turned in a historic campaign in net for Georgia, tallying 120 saves, the second-most of any keeper in program history. The Las Vegas native also tallied nine shutouts and notched a .845 save percentage and 1.05 goals against average. During the regular season, Brown led the SEC in saves and saves per game, while ranking third in save percentage, with all three totals ranking in the national top 20.
