Walker Named Butkus Award Semifinalist

November 04, 2024 | Football

ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog junior linebacker Jalon Walker has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Butkus Award honoring the nation's best linebacker, according to a Butkus Foundation announcement Monday.

Walker, a native of Salisbury, N.C., is one of six players from the Southeastern Conference on the list.  He is already a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award.  Finalists will be named on Nov. 25 and the winner will be named Dec. 10.

Walker has 34 tackles through eight games and is the team leader with 5.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.  He has recovered a pair of fumbles while having to bounce back and forth from inside linebacker to outside linebacker.  Thanks in part to his play, the Bulldogs are only giving up 17 points per game and are holding opponents, which have included a trio of teams who were ranked in the top 15, to just 28 percent on third down conversion rate.

The No. 2  Bulldogs (7-1, 5-1 SEC) travel to Oxford, Miss., to play No. 16 Ole Miss (7-2, 3-2) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.  ABC will televise the matchup.
