November 03, 2024 | Soccer
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown and graduate midfielder Nicole Vernis were named to the Second Team All-Southeastern Conference, as announced by the league office Sunday morning.
Brown earned her first All-SEC honor after posting a historic campaign in net for Georgia (7-5-6, 3-3-4 SEC), posting 105 saves and becoming only the fifth keeper in program history to eclipse 100 saves. The Las Vegas native also tallied eight shutouts and notched a .854 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average. Brown currently leads the SEC in saves and saves per game, while ranking third in save percentage, with all three totals ranking in the national top 20. Brown is the fifth Bulldog goalie to earn All-SEC accolades and the first since Emory Wegener in 2020.
Vernis also received an All-SEC citation for the first time in her career, following a terrific season as the leader of the Bulldogs' midfield. The North Palm Beach, Florida native started in all 18 regular season matches, tallying 1,554 minutes, the most of any Georgia field player. Vernis scored three goals and assisted on three others, including her first career brace to ensure the tie at then-No. 13 Auburn and the winning goal against Tennessee.
Brown, Vernis, and the rest of the Georgia squad open the 2024 SEC Tournament against Texas A&M in a first-round match Sunday at 12:30 p.m. EST in Pensacola, Florida. The match will air live on SEC Network.
