Catching Up With Christian Adams
November 27, 2024 | Baseball
Christian Adams joined the Georgia Bulldogs this fall after graduating from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) where he was one of the leaders of the Owls program the past few years.
A 6-2, 205-pound native of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., the Bulldogs welcome his versatility. Last season with FAU, he led the Owls in numerous categories including batting (.343), hits (71), total bases (108) and slugging percentage (.522). Adams was one of three position players to start all 57 games.
What would you attribute your success to at the plate in 2024?
"Honestly, just going in every day and trying to repeat all the good things I've been taught to do. I try to just stay consistent, have a good approach every day and just have fun and enjoy the game."
How did you handle bouncing back from a wrist injury that kept you out a couple months during the 2023 season?
"There was a teammate that got the same surgery three weeks before me, and we were both going through rehabilitation, so I was able to ask him a lot of questions. We helped each other through it and then we both returned to the lineup for the rest of the year."
What's your approach to defense and how you maintain focus and precision at second base?
"You must be locked in every single pitch the whole game. You can't take any pitches off because that's when the ball is going to get to you, and if you're not locked in, you're not going to be able to make the play."
Why did you decide to major in Communications at FAU?
"I'd like to eventually go into some type of sports broadcasting. I started at a community college, and that was one of the majors I was interested in once I got to FAU."
How has your brother influenced your baseball career?
"It was awesome growing up having someone older than me, especially in my family, just to see him play baseball. I would go to the games when I was young, and it grabbed my interest. I got to play sometimes with him and his friends and facing that better competition helped me."
What was the biggest change for you coming to UGA, and what are you looking forward to this season?
"Everyone kind of has the same mentality here, and we're making each other better as teammates. The coaching staff is great. They've been helping everyone out, not just myself, but I can see them helping everyone out, and it just makes it better for everyone."
If you had a walk-up song for any sport aside from baseball, what would it be?
"I'd probably have to go with Sugar by Flo Rida."
Have you enjoyed the home football games?
"I was excited for the first one because it was my first Georgia game. I mean, it wasn't a good game, but the SEC games are always the best."
What do you think you'll learn and benefit from after being at Georgia?
"I'd say being able to have a schedule and be on top of everything every day. Also, I've met a lot of people and having those connections wherever I go. I've made a lot of new friends."
How would you say you're adapting so far with the new guys?
"I love it here."
You can invite three MLB players to dinner so who is getting the invitation?
"I'll go with Mike Trout, Corey Seager and Jackson Holliday."
