November 11, 2024 | Soccer

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia soccer team was awarded a No. 7 seed in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship, earning three consecutive bids for only the second time in program history (2007-09).

Georgia (8-6-6, 3-3-4 SEC) will play in the Los Angeles Regional and will face Colorado on Friday, Nov. 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the Turner Soccer Complex. Friday's match will mark the third-straight tournament opener in Athens, a program first. The match will stream live to paid subscribers on ESPN+.

Tickets can be purchased for $11 each, with all tickets being general admission. Admission is free for all University of Georgia students who display a valid ID at the main gate. The Turner Soccer Complex will open one hour prior to the start of the match. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the UGA Ticket Office. Tickets can also be purchased on-site at the Turner Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon.

If Georgia advances to the Second Round, it will take on the winner of Friday's Wake Forest-Morehead State match next Friday. The meeting between the Demon Deacons and Eagles will kick off at 6 p.m. EST in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Georgia, one of a record 10 SEC teams to earn a selection, is making its 12th tournament appearance, entering the 64-team field with a 9-10-2 all-time record in the event. In its history, the program has hosted five NCAA Tournament matches, including wins over Wake Forest (1997), Alabama A&M (2007), Samford (2022), and Liberty (2023). The Bulldogs defeated Liberty, 2-1, in the first round and Iowa, 3-2, in the second round to reach the Round of 16 for only the third time in program history. Despite a late goal in regulation, the Bulldogs eventually tied top-seeded Clemson, 1-1 and fell in penalty kicks.

Colorado (11-4-5, 4-2-5 Big 12) finished ninth overall in the Big 12 this season, returning to the league after a 13-season stint in the Pac-12. The Buffaloes reached the Big 12 quarterfinals, falling, 3-1, to TCU. Georgia and Colorado shared two common opponents this season: North Carolina and UCF. The Bulldogs and Buffaloes have faced off twice before, with Colorado winning the first meeting in Boulder in 2003, followed by a tie in Athens in 2004. Last season, the Buffaloes lost, 1-0, at Texas A&M in the NCAA First Round.

Georgia enters the NCAA Tournament well-tested, having played the seventh-toughest schedule in the country, including top seeds Florida State, North Carolina, Mississippi State, and Arkansas. The Bulldogs prevailed in their SEC Tournament opener, 1-0, against Texas A&M last Sunday before allowing a late goal to Arkansas in a 1-0 loss on Tuesday. Junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown and graduate midfielder Nicole Vernis were named to the Second Team All-SEC, with Brown only seven saves away from setting a new single-season program record.
