ATHENS, Ga – The University of Georgia men's tennis team has signed Grand Slam champion Gabriele Vulpitta, head coach Jamie Hunt announced on Friday.
"Gabriele is one of the best players in the world and has won on the some of the biggest stages of tennis," said Hunt. "We could not be more excited for him to join us in January. He is an elite competitor, works extremely hard and has high aspirations for himself. He's exactly what we look for in our players, and we are expecting him to contribute in big ways for this team"
Vulpitta, from Rome, Italy, joins the spring 2025 Bulldog signing class alongside transfer Arda Azkara. He held a career-high ITF Junior World Singles Ranking of No. 26 while also boasting a Wimbledon Junior Doubles Title. Vulpitta was also a 2023 Roland Garros junior doubles finalist. He also held career-high ATP rankings of No. 747 in doubles and No. 1168 in singles with a Universal Tennis Rating of 13.23.
Vulpitta's arrival brings the roster to 14 total with 10 returning players from the 2023-24 roster, two new arrivals in freshman Aidan Atwood and transfer Oscar Pinto Sansano, and fellow January enrollee Arda Azkara.
