Bulldogs In Sixth After Opening Round Of White Sands Invitational

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas — Chantal El Chaib posted a first-round score of 73 to claim a share of fourth place and lead the Bulldogs to sixth as a team after one day of competition at the White Sands Invitational on Saturday.

·       The Bulldogs shot 22-over par as a team in the first round to finish the tournament's opening day in sixth place. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after the opening day was rained out on Friday. Georgia is 15 strokes behind the tournament leader, Purdue (+7), but trails Missouri and Kansas (+18) for fourth place by just four shots.
·       El Chaib carded a 2-over 73 to lead the Bulldogs in a tie for fourth place after the first round. The graduate student is currently five strokes behind the leader with 18 holes left to play on Sunday.
·       Senior Kate Song and sophomore Celine Brovold Sanne both carded 77s on Saturday and hold shares of 23rd place. Song sunk three birdies across 18 holes, including two on the back nine, while Brovold Sanne birdied on the 15th hole.
·       In her first tournament competing for team points, freshman Zixin "Candice" Lou shot an 8-over 79 in the first round to finish the day in a tie for 40th place.
·       Illini Invitational runner-up Morgan Smith finished day one in a tie for 53rd, carding an 83 in the first round.
