Starks Named A Lott IMPACT Trophy Quarterfinalist
October 17, 2024 | Football
ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog junior safety Malaki Starks has been named one of 16 quarterfinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, according to an announcement from The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation Thursday.
Â
Starks, a native of Jefferson, Ga., will be aiming to become Georgia's first semifinalist since Jalen Carter in 2022 when the list is trimmed again.  While both former Bulldog All-Americans and current Philadelphia Eagles Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean were 2021 finalists, David Pollack is the one and only Georgia player to win the Lott Trophy in 2004.
Â
Semifinalists will be named in late November with finalists in December.Â
Â
Starks is the team's leading tackler with 32 stops through six games, including a pair of tackles for loss.  He has one of three interceptions for the Bulldogs this season after jumping between his safety spot and the STAR position in most contests in 2024.  Other than the season-opening win versus 11th-ranked Oregon in 2022, Starks has started every game of his career.
Â
Fifth-ranked Georgia (5-1, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) travels to Austin on Friday in anticipation for its showdown with top-ranked Texas (6-0, 2-0 SEC) on Saturday.  ABC will televise the matchup at 7:30 p.m. ET.
