BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference has tabbed University of Georgia senior volleyball student-athlete Sophie Fischer as the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
This is the fifth SEC weekly award for the Fort Mill, South Carolina native in her career and first of the 2023 campaign.
Fischer tallied 4.0 kills per set guiding the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record over the weekend at the Georgia Tech Classic including a win over No. 10 Georgia Tech Friday evening. Fischer hit .297 in 12 sets, registering 48 total kills with four aces, and averaging 5.17 points per set. On the net, she put up 18 total blocks for a 1.5 average.
It was a career day for the 6-5 middle blocker in Sunday's con-conference finale against Howard, registering a career-best 19 kills while hitting a very efficient .548 in the match. In Friday's upset over Tech, Fischer recorded 13 kills while putting up eight blocks. She topped her kill total in Saturday's four-set loss to San Diego with 16.
Fischer's 4.15 kills per set currently ranks fourth and 1.20 blocks per set ranks ninth in the SEC heading into conference play. Her 5.21 points per set is second in the league.
Georgia (9-3) opens SEC play at No. 3 Florida (8-1) on Sunday. First serve is set for 7 p.m., ET, on SEC Network live from Gainesville.
