CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Georgia women's golf team was off to a strong start at the Cougar Classic when play was suspended due to weather late in the afternoon on Monday. With most golfers through 28-29 of their scheduled 36 holes on the day, the Bulldogs were at 11-under and in seventh on the team leaderboard.

"Truthfully, it was a very good day overall," head coach Josh Brewer said. "We really got it going in round two. I guess we'll just have to wait a little to get back out there and keep that momentum going."

After shooting 3-under 281 on the par-71 layout in the morning, the Bulldogs were at 8-under in the second round when play stopped at approximately 4:45 p.m. ET.

The 17-team field will return to the Yeamans Hall Club on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and complete the second round before immediately beginning the final round thereafter.

Georgia covered the back nine at 1-over in the first round before shooting 10-under over the same stretch during the second loop.

"I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that we focus on trying to learn the course and adjust to it and also due to our conditioning," Brewer said. "Part of it is as simple as making some putts we might've just missed earlier."

Four of five Bulldogs in Georgia's lineup are currently under par. Caterina Don is 4-under through 28 holes and tied for eighth individually, LoraLie Cowart and Natachanok "Drive" Tunwannarux both are at 3-under through 29 holes and tied for 17th and Bernice Olivarez Ilas is 1-under and tied for 32nd. In addition, Kate Song, who is competing individually, is at 2-over and tied for 56th and Napa "Jenny" Lertsadwattana is tied for 61st at 3-over.

"I think this season is going to be a little different than the past few years when we had Jenny (Bae) and knew she was pretty much going to give us a really good score every round," Brewer said. "This season, there might be a different person leading us every day at every tournament. As a coach, it's exciting to watch that. I know it's exciting for them too because they're all capable of shooting 2- or 3-under – or even lower – on any given day."

Tunwannarux led Georgia in the first round, shooting 3-under 68 in her first round of college golf. The Bulldogs also counted a pair of 1-under 70s from Cowart and Don and a 73, the score posted by both Olivarez Ilas and Lertsadwattana.

Tunwannarux teed off from No. 8 with Monday's shotgun start and quickly moved to 2-under with birdies at No. 9 and No. 10. She dropped with 3-under with another birdie at No. 14 before giving two of those strokes back with bogeys at No. 18 and No. 2. Tunwannarux bounced back with consecutive birdies at No. 3 and No. 4 before wrapping up her morning loop with a trio of pars.

Don was 3-under through 10 holes in the second round. After parring No. 9, she posted a trio of birdies at No. 10, No. 11 and No. 12. Don also birdied No. 16 but gave a stroke back with a bogey at No. 18 when play halted.

Clemson leads the team field at 19-under, a stroke better than Kentucky. Rounding out the top 10 teams are LSU at 17-under, UCF at 16-under, Ole Miss at 15-under, Florida at 12-under, the Bulldogs at 11-under, N.C. State at 5-under and both Michigan State and Tennessee at 2-under.

Georgia will again be paired with LSU and Ole Miss on Tuesday. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
