ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia men's tennis program has signed incoming freshman Cyrus Mahjoob, who has enrolled this fall, head coach Manuel Diaz announced Friday afternoon.
The Rockville, Md. native has a career-high player ranking of 109 in the International Tennis Federation Junior world rankings. Mahjoob, a five-star recruit on tennisrecruiting.net, boasts a 43-22 overall record across his juniors career.
"Cyrus is another high-character individual that we are thrilled to welcome into our program," Diaz said. "He is a talented player with great results at the junior level. We are excited to have him as a Bulldog and know he will be a tremendous fit with the rest of the team."
The seventh-ranked player in the United States Tennis Association Junior rankings, Mahjoob also compiled a 10-1 record against opposing five-star recruits, with an additional seven wins against blue-chip prospects. Mahjoob earned medals at the USTA Easter Bowl 16s for both singles and doubles in 2022. He also has a top-five finish at 2022 USTA Clay Courts 18s and finished in the semifinals at the 2023 FILA International Junior Championships in Indian Wells, Calif.
A graduate of Laurel Springs High School, Mahjoob trained in the Junior Tennis Champions Center based out of College Park, Md., progressing through JTTC full-time school pathway.
The Maryland native joins a young core of incoming freshmen five-star Davis Taylor and four stars Parker Jacques and Parker Mariencheck as well as Belgium-native Niels Ratiu. The Bulldogs also signed USC transfer Ryan Colby, who was a former blue-chip prospect and All-Pac 12 honoree.
