Georgia Tennis Teams Earn Academic Awards

ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia men's and women's tennis teams were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for their academic achievements on Monday morning, with seven student-athletes on the men's team and five on the women's side earning ITA Scholar-Athlete honors and both programs being recognized as ITA All-Academic Teams.
The men's team had redshirt seniors Trent Bryde, Blake Croyder, Philip Henning and Teodor Giusca, sophomore Thomas Paulsell and redshirt freshmen Filipe Costa and Ethan Quinn receive ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. The team posted the best grade point average in program history in the spring of 2023, reaching a 3.71 team GPA.
Graduate Meg Kowalski, sophomores Guillermina Grant, Mell Reasco and Dasha Vidmanova as well as freshman Alexandra Vecic were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes from the women's program. The team finished the spring with a combined 3.48 GPA.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, the student-athlete must finish the academic year with a 3.5 GPA. Teams with a 3.2 GPA for the year earn the ITA All-Academic Team distinction.
For the 28th time in head coach Manuel Diaz's 35-year career as the leader of the program, the men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs finished with a 23-7 record, including a perfect 12-0 mark in SEC play to win its 32nd regular season conference crown. The year was highlighted by redshirt freshman Ethan Quinn winning the NCAA Singles National Championship, marking the fifth time a Georgia men's player has done so in program history.
The women's tennis team ended the season with a 26-5 record and a No. 2 final ranking. Georgia advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Championships, the finals of the ITA National Team Indoors and captured the SEC Tournament crown in the final season of legendary head coach Jeff Wallace's career.
