Grum Finishes Fifth on Second Day of Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS – Rising senior Ian Grum earned a second-consecutive top-five nationals finish as the University of Georgia men's and women's swimming teams continued competition Wednesday at the Phillips 66 National Championships.
 
Grum took fifth in the 200-meter backstroke championship final with a personal-best time of 1:56.32, following up his runner-up finish in last year's championships. Rising sophomore Sam Powe reached the 200m backstroke consolation final, placing seventh in the evening race with a PB of 1:59.50, his second personal best of the day. In prelims, sixth-year senior Bradley Dunham placed 33rd with a time of 2:01.57, followed by rising junior Mitchell Norton in 38th place at 2:02.34.
 
In the men's 200-meter freestyle consolation final, rising senior Jake Magahey finished third with a time of 1:46.97. In prelims, alum Jay Litherland finished 25th with a time of 1:49.23, with fifth-year senior Zach Hils placing 39th with a time of 1:50.99. In the women's 200m freestyle, fifth-year senior Jillian Barczyk and rising senior Sloane Reinstein posted a pair of personal best times. Barczyk placed third in the 'C' final with a time of 1:59.73, followed by Reinstein in fourth at 1:59.97.
 
Fifth-year senior Zoie Hartman finished seventh in the 200-meter breaststroke consolation final with a time of 2:31.19. On the men's side, Bulldog alum Nic Fink took fourth with a time of 2:09.20.
 
In the morning session, alum Dakota Luther tied for 34th with a personal best of 27.58 and graduate Callie Dickinson also earned a PB with a 41st-place time of 27.68.
 
Competition at the National Championships continues Thursday with the 400-meter IM, 100-meter butterfly, 50-meter breaststroke, and 50-meter backstroke. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 7 p.m. Live coverage of the meet is available on YouTube and Peacock, with live results available through Omega Timing and on the MeetMobile app.
