ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia's Jenny Bae is one of seven golfers named to the Watch List for PING WGCA Player of the Year, which is awarded annually to the top player in Division I by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. The WGCA announced the list on Tuesday.
Bae, a super senior from Suwanee, Ga., is in the midst of one of the greatest seasons ever by a Georgia golfer. She has already broken the Bulldogs' season record for par-or-better rounds with 23 such efforts. Bae, who is a combined 37-under over 32 rounds this season, also is one pace to break Georgia's season stroke average record. Her current average of 70.56 is .48 per better than the existing school record.
In 11 tournaments this season, Bae has recorded eight top-5 finishes. She captured individual titles at the Illini Invitational last fall and the NCAA Athens Regional last week. Bae shot a school-record 16-under tally to win the Illini event at historic Medinah Country Club. Her 13-under tally on her home course at UGA is the second-best tournament score in school history.
The other six golfers named to the WGCA's Watch List are Zoe Antoinette Campos from UCLA; Rachel Kuehn from Wake Forest, Julia Lopez-Ramirez from Mississippi State, Amanda Sambach from Virginia, Crystal Wang from Illinois and Rose Zhang from Stanford.
Bae and her teammates will open play at the 2023 NCAA Championships this Friday. The Bulldogs advanced to the NCAAs for the third consecutive year, the first time they have done so since making four straight NCAAs between 2006-09.
