Bulldogs Top Gamecocks 4-1

ATHENS, Ga. — The fifth-ranked University of Georgia women's tennis team defeated No. 27 South Carolina 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, in Southeastern Conference action.
In doubles, Georgia (16-4, 9-1 SEC) took two of three from South Carolina (12-7, 7-3 SEC). On court two, No. 50 Meg Kowalski and Mell Reasco cruised to a 6-2 win over Elise Mills and Gracie Mulville. The Gamecocks responded, taking court one in a tiebreaker. No. 48 Ayana Akli and Sarah Hamner outlasted Ania Hertel and Ania Hertel 7-6(4). The doubles point came down to another tiebreaker on court three. Despite trailing 2-5, No. 40 Guillermina Grant and Mai Nirundorn came back to top Ana Cruz and Allie Gretkowski 7-6(3) to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, the Bulldogs won three matches. No. 9 Vidmanova dominated No. 19 Sarah Hamner 6-1, 6-2. The Gamecocks responded with a straight-set win on court three to cut the match score to 2-1. Georgia answered with another straight-set win on court six as Grant topped Alice Otis 6-2, 7-5. No. 125 Kowalski provided the final punch for the Bulldogs, defeating Elise Mills 7-6(4), 6-2 to clinch the win.
Up next, Georgia wraps up its home slate against the Florida Gators on Easter Sunday at 1 p.m. Graduate Meg Kowalski and seniors Ania Hertel and Lea Ma will be honored prematch on Sunday during senior day festivities.
