April 28, 2023 | Men's Swimming & Diving
ATHENS, Ga. – Boosting an already impressive roster, the University of Georgia men's swimming and diving team announced the addition of graduate transfer Miles Simon, as announced by head coach Neil Versfeld Friday afternoon.
Simon, an Atlanta native, comes to Athens with an impressive resume following a four-year career at Howard University. Led by his outstanding performance, the Bison won their first Northeast Conference championship this season, the program's first conference title in 34 years.
Simon was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer of the 2023 meet as he won gold medals in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 100 IM, and 400 freestyle relay, breaking seven conference records in the process. He later placed second in the 50 freestyle, fourth in 100 butterfly, and fifth in the 100 IM at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship. During his career at Howard, he set a program record in the 100 IM and 800 freestyle relay, along with posting the third-fastest 200 backstroke in school history.
Simon also made program history in 2021 as he became only the second Howard swimmer to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials, joining his head coach Nic Askew. He eventually finished 61st in the 50-meter freestyle at Wave I of the Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.
